Design Manager - Data Centers

The client

Datacenter People is partnering with a French architectural and engineering design consultancy, specialists in designing, building and operating for the built environment, including data centers.

What the job involves 32 responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate the design process across all project phases.
• Manage external engineering consultants and specialist design teams across multiple disciplines.
• Ensure alignment between client requirements, project objectives, and technical solutions.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary design reviews and workshops.
• Manage design schedules and ensure timely delivery of project milestones.
• Facilitate collaboration between stakeholders throughout the design process.
• Review and validate technical deliverables across all engineering disciplines.
• Ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and industry best practices.
• Verify alignment with:
• Uptime Institute requirements.
• TIA-942 standards.
• Client performance criteria.
• Operational and resilience objectives.
• Monitor technical quality, consistency, and completeness throughout the design lifecycle.
• Support technical decision-making and resolution of design issues.
• Act as the technical liaison between:
• Clients.
• Engineering consultants.
• Specialist subcontractors.
• Internal design and project teams.
• Identify, manage, and resolve technical interfaces between disciplines.
• Lead the resolution of design conflicts and coordination issues.
• Ensure effective communication and alignment among all project stakeholders.
• Support project planning, budgeting, and design resource management.
• Monitor design progress and contribute to project reporting activities.
• Ensure design deliverables support permitting, procurement, construction, commissioning, and operational readiness objectives.
• Contribute to risk identification and mitigation strategies throughout the design process.
• Support proposal development, tenders, and client presentations.
• Contribute technical expertise during business development activities.
• Assist in building and strengthening Patriarche’s internal data center engineering capabilities.
• Support the development of design standards, methodologies, and technical best practices.
• Mentor and support the growth of technical teams as the business expands.

We are looking for someone with

• Degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Building Services, HVAC) or a related technical discipline.
• Proven experience managing the design of data center, mission-critical, or complex infrastructure projects.
• Strong background in multidisciplinary design coordination within engineering consultancies, contractors, or project delivery organizations.
• Experience managing external consultants and technical stakeholders.
• Good understanding of RIBA work stages and international project delivery frameworks.
• Strong knowledge of:
• Uptime Institute standards.
• TIA-942 requirements.
• Data center design principles.
• Resilience and redundancy strategies.
• Experience in large-scale, multidisciplinary project environments.
• Fluent French and English, both written and spoken.
• Excellent stakeholder management and coordination skills
• Strong technical judgment and analytical thinking.
• Effective communication and presentation abilities.
• Structured, proactive, and solution-oriented approach.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and complex interfaces.
• Strong organizational and project management capabilities.

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
• Knowledge of Revit, BIM workflows, and design coordination platforms is advantageous.
